Waiting for you to be ripe
Sleeping in your hay-nest,
Like an egg yet to hatch,
For six days you must rest,
you and your whole batch.
I've waited a year,
And now that you're near,
I'm waiting to rejoice,
Waiting till you get ripe.
After a while,
one side is sunny enough,
So dutifully I'll
Toss you upside down.
I've waited a year,
And now that you're near,
I'm waiting to rejoice,
Waiting till you get ripe.
Mango season is back!!! Here I am, typing away in my study room where our first peti (crate) of mangoes lies. We store the mangoes in a box with hay, waiting for the green to become yellow. I always find it fascinating, how you simply need to keep the fruit in hay for it to get ripe.
Every time I walk into my study room, a fresh scent of mangoes greets me, riper every day. Approx 4 more days for them to be sunshine yellow!!
Logging off,
Aanya
